Day 31

There was a lot to do but it all went to plan.
Day 31... finished!

Reward number 1 for 2013 earned!

Today...

Shelf was mounted,
more lines hung,
all the photos put up,
and the launch dinner made.

Was hectic down to the last few minutes!

The project is over and the system now in place. All the highest possible quality prints, using a great display technique and now knowing how to get the best development process using the right lab and their printer profile. More photos will be added to the wall yet and some better techniques for keeping the lines taught too. Maybe just small weights at the bottom or another baton running along the bottom. But that's all just tweeks and improvements. The Big White Wall is now live and in use.

Thanks to those that followed this little project. It was very beneficial to me knowing that I had to share my results each day and show some kind of progress. It did get the job done with just 10mins a day in 30 days. Its too embarrassing to say "I had a rest day" two days in a row and so something always got done, even if it was the 10 mins before bed time. Quite often the intention to spend 10 minutes grew and an hour or so could be spent on the project, and that time came out of nowhere. So there is no more "I can't find the time" when running a project like this. I will definitely do more projects with this method.

Anyone want to do one too and share the results? Maybe start in March. Gives a month to think up something. Could be fun to share the reward too. Just pick a goal and go for it!

I'll be back here in a week or so to post the time-lapse video of the 30 days. It won't be all blank wall as several photos were taken today of the final stages of progress.

Day 30

One more day to go, tomorrow is the launch meal and the wall is still empty!

But the shelf is made, its on the floor, I decided not to drill into the wall in the evening and disturb the neighbours, I can do that tomorrow during the day. I have also bought the food for the meal and right now I'm tying the mounting lines to the dowel. Tomorrow I have to finish this in order to prove I can do it. Lets hope I manage it!

Day 30
On top of all that today I have been working hard on my current photography project, my first commercial photography job and I have also sent off my proposal for a new sales agency business. Its been an incredibly busy period.

Next week I will be snowboarding in Italy and need to take that time out to think about how I can start to monetise my projects as I move forward. I'll also be working on my new commercial photography website and my next big challenge:
www.whatis4tea.com

But for now, one more day to go until the launch so there is work to be done!

Day 29

Today has been yet another productive one in regards to everything but the big white wall!

Day 29
But priorities in order; most of today's work has been on my commercial photography project and also creating a business proposal for a sales agency opportunity.

I have also put a few more coats of paint on the shelf, with sanding work carried out between each coat.
Last coast has just been applied, that means that tomorrow one last, light sanding and then the shelf can go up followed by all the photos. Just in time for the launch dinner hopefully!

Day 28

So close to the end and still not a lot of difference on the wall but in the background there is so much going on!

Day 28
The shelf has had its second and third coat (having had the knots filled and sanded between coats causing a white dust storm on the hallway). The photos are all still waiting to go up.

Lots of prep for the holiday today and as I got a Gopro HERO2 Video camera yesterday for my 40th Birthday present from my Parents and brother I had to shop for memory cards and bits and bobs too.

And tonight is a big photography working session. A friend who I'm collaborating with on the first commercial photography project is coming over and we will be creating a photo development factory to get all of the images processed and the job finished. The products are confidential and so this image has been blurred but protect them but its been good working through the development process together.

And right now I best crack on with it as its going to be a long long evening, lots yet to do.

Day 27

A most productive day.
Woke up early with a hangover but had already decided I was going to work it off so after some breakfast I went straight to B&Q, swapped the plank for the right size and bought some shelf brackets in the much cheaper Wilkinsons (a total saving of £25). I had the wood sanded, chamfered and painted with primer before lunch. In case you have forgotten, this plank is to be a shelf above the radiator to stop the heat directly effecting the photos. I don't just prepare planks for fun.

On top of this I did some essential chores, a short but hard and incredibly dirty bike ride, and started ticking off the list for more snowboarding holiday prep.

Day 27
Tomorrow (Mon) I will:
- 1st coat of paint on the shelf
- Mount a good few photos on card
- Fix a few more photo hangers on the wall.

Tuesday:
- sand shelf and 2nd coat.
- and more of the above

Weds:
- mount the shelf and finish hanging all the photos

Whilst I will also order more photos I don't think they will arrive in time and so its not a priority.

Now going to bed very tired and satisfied with a good productive day.

Day 26

So we have the photos but still no more hanging yet.
Well as was discovered earlier the heat from the radiator was making them curl up so a solutions was needed, perhaps just a small shelf. As you can see a plank of wood has been purchased!
Day 26

Today was a very rare day as I went shopping and its not Christmas. This situation occurs maybe once a decade!  There was good cause though because today I bought my body armour ready for snow boarding.

It turns out that this whole shopping experience took its toll on me as on the way home we stopped in B&Q to pick up wood for a shelf. In my tiredness I have picked up the wrong piece so tomorrow morning I now have to go back to change it!

Only only 4 days to go, will we get it all done in time? Lets hope!

Day 25

Not a lot on the project today but for a good reason.
Today I helped a good friend (and follower of this blog) move into their new home. However we did get it done quickly so I was also able to work on my first ever commercial photography shoot photos. Now that a process and technique is in place doing the rest of the photos should be relatively painless so it was good to take time out to do it.

As for this project, I have set out the tools and materials needed for hanging the photos this weekend, though I must also get a radiator cover too, other wise the photos will all curl up like the red fish that come from Christmas crackers.
